PHYS 206A and 206B: Problem solving for Physics 205

1 credit hour course geared towards intense problem solving and discussion sessions.

Two new courses will be offered through the Physics Department at SIU Carbondale in the spring 2020 semester to help physics students succeed in the classroom.  PHYS 206A and 206B, Problem solving for Physics 205 are 1 credit hour courses taught in a discussion / problem solving format. The courses are designed to teach problem solving techniques for beginning physics and engineering students enrolled in the University Physics courses. The problem solving techniques taught in this class will benefit students for their entire course of study at SIUC and will help contribute to their success in the classroom.   Registration for the spring semester opens on October 29.  For more information, go to physics.siu.edu/courses or register online at salukinet.siu.edu.

Who should register - Physics/Engineering majors planning to enroll in PHYS 205 A & B

Advanced Physics courses – 476 series

PHYS 476B, Intro. to Biological Physics, & PHYS 476C, Intro. to Computational Physics.

SIU Carbondale physics students will have a few more options for advanced undergraduate coursework in the spring 2020 semester.   PHYS 476 series courses have been designed to provide specialized coursework to meet requirements of physics specialization tracks at SIUC.  This semester, students can enroll in PHYS 476B (PDF flyer) Introduction to Biological Physics, and PHYS 476C (PDF flyer) Introduction to Computational Physics.  SIUC Physics offers 4 tracks including Traditional Physics, Material Science / Nanophysics, Computational Physics, and Biophysics.  Registration for the spring semester opens on October 29.  For more information, go to physics.siu.edu or register for classes at salukinet.siu.edu.

Who should register –  Physics majors interested in Biological or Computational Physics

Advanced Lab PHYS 450:

Experimental lab course geared towards characterization & applications of Novel Materials

This course is designed to give a firsthand introductory knowledge and basic concepts related to experimental research and encourages the students to develop and carry out experiments independently. This course is oriented for advanced undergraduate students and graduate who plan to pursue experimental research (in Condensed Matter/ Materials Physics/ Nanotechnology). The goal of the course is to provide ample knowledge to students as far as modern methods in experimental/materials research is concerned and provide them with basic skills and knowhow to carry out experiments in academia and/or industry. Registration for the spring semester opens on October 29.  For more information, go to physics.siu.edu/courses or register online at salukinet.siu.edu.

Who should register – Physics majors/science & Engineering graduate students with interest in nanoscale materials & applications, electronics/sensor based devices, energy storage etc.
